Yang Bin: Conquering Digital Printing Problems

Yang Bin, who has just won the ninth "Bi Sheng Printing Outstanding Newcomer Award", recently met with reporters about how he entered the world of digital printing in the office on the fourth floor of the local square building and 13 years ago. The area is sour and bitter.

Joining Wang Xuan and entering the digital printing world In 1990, Yang Bin, who was a third-year student in the Department of Computer Science at Peking University, was fortunate enough to meet with the founder of the Laser Photographic Dispatcher in China, and the “Contemporary Bi Sheng” Wang Xuan academician. At that time, Wang Xuan's academician opened an elective course of “modern software design method.” Yang Bin, who was very interested in software programming, did not hesitate to sign up. Yang Bin told reporters that Mr. Wang’s class attaches great importance to practicality, with particular emphasis on the ability to solve problems in the face of problems. This course has benefited him a lot, so he started to follow Wang’s idea of continuing his studies. One day after class, Yang Bin put forward to Mr. Wang a graduate student who wanted to apply for him. After learning about Yang Bin's academic performance and scholarship experience, Teacher Wang quickly agreed and specifically arranged for Yang Bin a computer at the Peking University Computer Institute for Yang Bin to conduct FM network research. At the time, when computers were not widely available, a dedicated computer with excellent performance was a very good research condition for an undergraduate student. In 1991, Yang Bin successfully passed the postgraduate study of Wang Xuan’s academician and majored in computer applications. During his graduate studies, Yang Bin had more opportunities to consult with Wang Xuan's academician. The scientific spirit of Wang Xuan's academician also deeply influenced him. In 1992, Yang Bin, a graduate student, faced a test. At that time, Hong Kong's "Ta Kung Pao" signed with Beijing University Founder, using the color publishing system of Peking University Founder. However, because the "Ta Kung Pao" photo machine hardware specifications do not match with Founder's color publishing system, a new image-hanging algorithm is needed to solve the software-hardware matching problem. It takes one month before the new system cuts the ribbon. Wang Xuan’s academician handed over the subject to Yang Bin. When Yang Bin got his subject and calculated it repeatedly day and night, he finally designed the new algorithm on the day that Wang Xuan’s academician left for Hong Kong. On the second day, “Ta Kung Pao” successfully reported using the color publishing system of Peking University Founder.

After 13 years of hard work and a happy and happy master's degree, Yang Bin stayed at the Computer Research Institute of Peking University and worked for 13 years. In these 13 years, Yang Bin successively served as the research and development of image-linking technology in the development of Founder's electronic publishing system. In the process of technology research and development, Yang Bin applied for a number of patents, currently has obtained seven invention patents, and 16 patents have been submitted to the Patent Office for review. Looking back at these achievements, Yang Bin just passed by indifferently, but there are some things he always remembers. In the summer of 1996, in order to develop a seventh-generation RIP system with higher performance, a seven-person R&D team including Yang Bin entered the Huairou closed development. This is a two-month trip. At the time, Yang Bin's wife was pregnant. If he left as the backbone of the development of the 7th generation RIP system, the development of the new system would be affected. On the one hand, it was an urgent research and development task, on the other hand was the wife of a pregnant wife, and the understanding of family members. With support, Yang Bin was left alone and devoted himself to the research and development of images and linked networks.

In the closed two months, they divided their daily, early, middle, and late sections into three periods. They worked 20 times a week and worked an average of 14 hours a day. After two months of four months of work, Yang Bin finally developed the 7th-generation RIP system and laid the foundation for the system to reach the international market. People often see only the halo of victory, and how many people can understand the hardships behind it. In the 13 years of R&D, it was not plain sailing. Technical difficulties have troubled Bin Yang again and again. In digital printing, image linking is a key link. Since the early image linking technology was mostly used for black-and-white printing, due to the fact that black-and-white printing can no longer meet the needs of the market, in 1995, with the continuous increase in color printing, the original image Hanging net technology can no longer meet the requirements. Because the accuracy is not high, overprinting moiré appears when the image is hung, affecting the printing quality. This problem was not solved by many people at the time. Yang Bin does not believe in evil. In his view, as long as he does not solve the problem. To this end, he referred to a large amount of foreign materials and practiced it repeatedly. Finally, using the SuperCell principle, a high-precision hooking algorithm was designed and implemented. The angle accuracy reached 0.00035 degrees. This accuracy was also leading internationally at that time, effectively suppressing the occurrence of overprinted moiré. Despite the difficulty in research and development, Yang Bin felt very gratified when Yang Bin visited the customer and saw his R&D product functioning normally, producing newspapers, books, and publications every day for people around the world. Yang Bin proudly told reporters that the work he and his colleagues are engaged in from a small point of view is to increase the speed and quality of printing. From a large point of view, it is to contribute to the spread of world civilization.

From the soldiers to the generals, the role change has achieved new successes. During the interview, the reporter once went to the office of the Founder R&D center of Peking University. Among the large-span offices, more than 200 R&D staff were in order and were busy in their respective positions. How did he make these 200 people the world's best graphic arts R&D team? Yang Bin seems to have seen the reporter’s questions. Frankly speaking, from the technician to the leader is a gap that is harder to overcome than the technical problem. When you are a R&D person, you only need to be responsible for your own project. The completion of the project is the goal. The leader is responsible for the entire team and the goal is not just a project. Yang Bin told reporters that in the past, he was an introverted person, and the change of roles from R&D personnel to leaders has also changed his character, but the change has not been smooth. In 1999, Yang Bin began to lead a group to conduct R&D of the 7th generation RIP. In this R&D group, there are many new people. Since it is a newcomer, it sometimes makes some low-level mistakes. In fact, this is inevitable. However, he was always serious and rigorous. He was hard to accept the negligence and carelessness of others. When this happens, he always trains the newcomer who made the mistake. This thought that the low-level mistakes disappeared from now on, which knows that the palliative is not a cure, the mistake is then committed, and the communication is getting more and more difficult. This lesson taught Yang Bin to start thinking about role conversion. Today, the Graphic Arts R&D Center has formed a more relaxed and orderly working atmosphere. In the interview, the reporter felt that Yang Bin’s discourse of pause was full of confidence in the digital printing tomorrow.
