The national standard GB/T 2423.18-2000 outlines the essential requirements for testing equipment used in the alternating salt spray test for electronic and electrical products. These guidelines ensure that the test results are accurate, consistent, and representative of real-world conditions. One of the key components of this test is the salt spray chamber, which must be constructed from materials resistant to corrosion caused by salt spray. It should also not interfere with the test outcomes. Currently, top-tier suppliers in the market often use PP (polypropylene) salt spray chambers due to their durability and resistance to chemical degradation.

The design and structure of the salt spray chamber, including the method of generating the salt spray, must meet specific criteria. These include:

a. The internal environment of the salt spray chamber must maintain the required conditions throughout the test period.

b. The chamber should have sufficient volume to allow uniform and stable test conditions without being affected by turbulence or the presence of test samples.

c. The salt spray should not directly hit the test samples during the process, as this could lead to uneven exposure and inaccurate results.

d. Condensation or droplets forming on the walls or other parts of the chamber must not fall onto the test samples, as this could also affect the reliability of the test.

e. To prevent pressure buildup and ensure even distribution of the salt spray, the chamber must be equipped with properly designed venting holes. These vents should avoid creating strong air currents inside the chamber, which might disturb the test environment.

In addition to the salt spray chamber, the sprayer and humidity-heat chamber also play important roles in the salt spray test. The sprayer needs to produce a fine and consistent mist of salt solution, while the humidity-heat chamber helps simulate the effects of combined moisture and temperature, which can accelerate corrosion processes. Ensuring that all equipment works together effectively is crucial for achieving reliable and repeatable test results.
